• Workforce training
Fairfax County officials will provide mentees access to workforce training for medical and correctional staff to develop a better understanding of jail-based substance use disorder treatment.

  • Policies and protocols
Mentees can also expect to see developed standard operating procedures, medical protocols and nursing protocols for planning and implementing a comprehensive MAT program.

  • Continuity of care
Mentees can expect to see ways to establish and cultivate relationships with community partners that benefit program participants, including housing and community access to healthcare.

“I found the visit to Fairfax County to be amazing and truly inspiring. Sitting in with the STAR program participants was particularly motivating. While I found all our discussions helpful, the most valuable part was learning about the site’s process for providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services in the jail and the importance of having exit and discharge planning from the very beginning. It was also valuable to engage in open discussions with representatives from different counties to share our various approaches.”
